BodhyLab’s study on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

PsyCooperation_Pisa-Ukraine

This acronym stands for Psychophysiological Correlates and operant administration of Pictures from IAPS and to Stimuli with Affective content related to Ukraine.

With this study, BodhyLab aims to better understand the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a condition that can affect people exposed to the tragedy of war.

In particular, we aim to investigate the psychophysiological correlates of emotional reactions elicited by war-related stimuli administered below and above the perceptual and/or emotional thresholds. The purpose is to deepen the mechanisms underlying the processing of these stimuli depending on their conscious awareness and on their emotional relevance.

The study, supervisioned by Prof. Angelo Gemignani, is carried on in collaboration with Prof. Yelena Gregorian, hosted and supported by the University of Pisa.

How to participate

Just contact us through the form below,
or directly text Prof. Grigorian!

In order to be enrolled in the study, you will be first asked to fill the following questionnaires:

  • Dedicated experimental questionnaire asking study-related data
  • PCL-5, to assess presence and severity of Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

The experimental session will last one hour circa, during which you will be asked to wear:

  • on your head, an electroencephalographic (EEG) net with 128 electrodes
  • on your right shoulder and on the left 3° intercostal space, 2 electrodes for cardiac activity
  • on your non-dominant head, a tool for skin conductance recording

In addition to these wearable sensors, we will also use an eye-tracker & pupillometer device.

None of these tools are invasive, and wearing them will consist in little or null discomfort

What to expect after participating to the experiment

Restitution of results

Participating in the study is voluntary and free.

It does not involve any kind of risk or discomfort: whenever you should feel it, however, you will be allowed to interrupt the experiment immediately.

The psychophysiological measures collected are not meant to have a clinical value: however, if the experimenter will notice any deviation from healthy cut-offs of recorded physiologic parameters, you will be immediately informed and suggested a specialist.

We care about your privacy: your data will be pseudonomyzed, that is, only researchers that you explicitly authorize to treat your personal information will be allowed to do so. Upon request, we will also update you about the outcomes of the study.
